When I was 14, a friend offered me to play on his Commodore 64. It was my first time using a computer, and I was fascinated. I got a book to learn BASIC and got hooked on programming, so I decided to make it my way of life.
A few years later, I graduated from UNI (Lima, Perú) with a degree in systems engineering, and my first job was to migrate COBOL programs to SQL*Forms using Oracle7. I'd never heard of Oracle before, so I had to learn it on the fly, and boy, did I! A few months later, I joined Oracle as a Support Engineer, before transitioning to freelance consulting and occasionally teaching at Oracle University.
After thirty years, I've worked on a variety of complex and exciting projects, including migrating databases from AIX to Exadata, implementing HA and DR, fine-tuning databases and apps, and performing upgrades with minimal downtime. But what gives me the most delight is troubleshooting seemingly impossible issues.
I share these experiences in my blog, "All Things Oracle," as well as in talks I've done as a guest on the Oracle OTN Tour, since I believe in the power of information sharing.
