Professional:
I have over 15 years of experience with nearly every Oracle product. I started blogging in 2012 (on dbaeduardo.wordpress, my old blog) and later moved to LinkedIn (cunhaengineer), where I continue to share knowledge, help my community, and work with some of the largest companies in Latin America.
While I began my career as a DBA, I’ve expanded into Oracle Apps DBA (Retail and EBS), performance optimization, data engineering, and, more recently, cloud and architecture. I’ve always been a problem-solver.
Some highlights of my career include:
Projects involving installation, maintenance, and migration of the entire Oracle Fusion Middleware stack (WebLogic, SOA, OSB, ODI, Forms, ADF, OAM, OIM, OID, OUD, Webcenter Portal, Webcenter Sites);
Leadership in critical operations (Database, Data, Cloud, and Middleware):
Maintenance of Oracle ATG Web Commerce operations (Commerce Platform).
Managing a Data Warehouse exceeding 1PB.
Handling transactional databases ranging from 200TB to 400TB.
Administering and maintaining over 400 databases.
Overseeing more than 1,000 JVMs.
Achieving over $1 million/year in cloud cost savings.
Expertise in performance tuning, data modeling, and DW implementation/maintenance.
Success stories:
Migration of ERP systems for one of the world’s leading fashion retailers, including:
Oracle Retail migrations (Allocation, RMS with RFM, RESA, RFI, RIB, RPM, RSB, RTIL, SIM, COE, RPAS).
Migration of Oracle EBS from 11i to R12.2.4.
Database migration from on-premise to OCI (lift-and-shift projects).
Leadership in major projects:
Cost reduction, achieving over $1 million/year in savings.
Real-time data migration to a data lake using OGG4Bigdata from Oracle to Azure.
Consolidation of transactional data sources for DW using Oracle GoldenGate.
Implementation, migration, and maintenance of Oracle Exadata across all environments.
Personal:
I was born in a socially vulnerable community in Porto Alegre, Brazil, into a dysfunctional family. From a young age, I dreamed of building a better life for myself, and I saw technology as the key to my future. However, due to financial limitations, I couldn’t access it easily.
I began my high school journey in a technical school focused on IT—my dream field—and met my future wife there (she was my high school girlfriend). At 17, I became a father for the first time and, as a result, was expelled from my home. This pushed me to work as a supermarket bagger to make ends meet during a desperate time in my life.
Thankfully, I encountered people who helped me break into the IT field, and it was love at first sight—a passion that continues to this day. The competition was and remains fierce because the professionals in this field are incredibly skilled.
Given my difficult circumstances, I asked my manager how I could grow within the company despite so many others being ahead of me. He challenged me to earn the Oracle Certified Associate (OCA 11g) certification—a challenge few at the company had attempted back then.
I accepted the challenge despite my technical and language barriers (English). I spent countless nights studying. I couldn’t afford the official preparation book, so I made photocopies of sections borrowed from colleagues. Each month, I copied another portion of the book until I had the entire material. That’s how I earned my first Oracle certification (the first of over 50, haha)—working by day and studying by night.
At 35, I was diagnosed with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (high-functioning autism) after seeking answers for my social anxiety and difficulties. This discovery brought clarity to struggles I had faced for years.
Today, to give back for all the help I received early in my career, I lead a community dedicated to supporting young people and socially vulnerable individuals as they enter and grow in the Oracle world.
